roleplaying game? It just doesn't have any dice and lacks a monster manual. At least it has a core rulebook, that's how I look at it sometimes anyway. You usually got the pastor acting as your dungeon master and you get really emotional and you constantly roleplay about what heaven is like and what you will do when you meet Abraham, and when the rapture comes, and when people are free from death, and you have rules and then when you break one you telepathically pray to be forgiven. I mean to me it seems like roleplaying, does anyone else get that vibe? Not trying to bash anyone BTW, I do have a lot of friends that like roleplaying games and a lot of religious people (including my own family). Also not trying to force anyone to come out of character in order to answer this either.
P.S. I am referring to all (or most) religions, but particularly Christianity as that's what is mainstream around where I live (USA).

Ha ha, I used to play D&D as a kid. I still like those video games, but no, it has nothing to do with religion.

I love you.

I'll say it again. I love you. Gary Gygax loves you. every D n D player on this planet loves you.

(((HUG)))

What you are talking about is EXACTLY how D n D started.

Gary Gygax and the other creator of the game lived in a mountain communites where it snowed in a lot. So the only thing anyone could do was go to church during the winter.

This town could cite bible verses like no bodys bussiness. Just becuase thats all there was to do in the winter.

I think it was Gygax who had the idea to play a game based on the bible. It evolved ansd was well loved for a long time. After awhile the bible stories where over played. So they expanded. Im not sure about this part, but I have heard they then moved to mythology. Anyways D nD was truly born when Tolkeins Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit had its pop period (every 20 or so years it becomes really popular. We witnessed the next cycle after D nD's founding cycle just recently) thats when D nD is said to have been truly invested with time and creative energy.

And 1.0 was released in 1974

Today we have 3.5 with 4.0 (Which is an Abomination!) coming out soon.

I love you.

I have encountered people who seem to not only use religion like D&D but also use D&D like a religion. They may both be serving as the same type of crutch. It is almost like the way people treat wrestling. Some people really believe it is real and others take for the ridiculous entertainment that it is.

Have you ever considered that D&D is based on religion?
